Le Morte D'Arthur

Le Morte d'Arthur is a novel full of visions and dreams that predict future occurrences. These dreams and visions are often interpreted by a hermit because the dreamer cannot determine the true significance of the dream or vision. Sir Launcelot often does not sleep well and dreams frequently. However, he does not interpret his dreams but relies completely on others to reveal their true meaning to him. Sir Launcelot has several important dreams and visions during his quest for the Holy Grail. These dreams and visions come to reveal vital information to Sir Launcelot about his quest and about himself. He does not always listen to the information that is provided by these dreams and visions though. During his quest for the Holy Grail, Sir Launcelot comes upon a stone cross beside an old chapel. He attempts to enter the chapel in hopes of finding some company but he cannot enter. He sees a silver candlestick with six candles burning inside the chapel. Because he cannot enter the chapel and be in the light he decides to sleep outside. Sir Launcelot again comes upon a cross in his journey and decides to sleep there. He believed that he was in the coma for twenty-four days because he had been sinful for twenty-four years. He explains that because Sir Launcelot is full of sin that the mysteries of the Grail were denied to him. " Sir Launcelot then says to himself "now that I search for holy things, by my sins I am disqualified. " Sir Launcelot then awoke and continued his journey until he came upon a hermit. The knight then kissed the Grail and was cured. All of the dreams and visions that he experienced during his journey revealed more and more about himself and his journey. e to the knight and then a silver table appeared before the knight upon which sat the Holy Grail. While he was on the ship he found his son Sir Galahad. " Then a man came down from the clouds and blessed all of the knights except for one to whom he said "you have fought against me, and so now you shall be confounded unless you restore to me those gifts. He stopped himself and looked in the room and saw the Holy Grail on a silver table covered with a red samite cloth. Through dreams and visions that he had he realized that because of his sins he was not going to be able to see the Grail and experience its mysteries. One night the ship was blown ashore near a castle and a voice told Sir Launcelot to "leave your ship and enter the castle, where in part your prayers shall be granted.
