For 26 years, the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) has made a dramatic impact concerning women in politics. The impressive background of the NWPC is shown in comparing the important purpose on women's progress in the political arena and its extremely important accomplishments achieved by women in America. Betty Friedan, a prominent spokesperson for women's rights, founded the NWPC in 1971. ( 1:1) The NWPC is essential to America because 51 percent of the population is female. Currently, NWPC has a very impressive membership of more than 75,000 pro-choice women, who make up their 300 local chapters across the nation. The NWPC provides continuous financial contributions, volunteers, and technical support to all their candidates. For this reason, the NWPC maintains its fight to ensure women are equal participants among those minorities and affirmative action rights are observed within the major political parties. The NWPC believes that women must take action and unite against sexism, racism, institutional violence, poverty, and discrimination against religion and the disabled. The numbers of women in public office have increased dramatically in America. Since 1971, women in the world of politics have made major accomplishments. Additionally, the NWPC also support efforts to ensure reproductive freedom, and the freedom of sexual orientation. important role for the NWPC is the inclusion of women equally in all aspects of the political parties, government positions, and the judiciary and elective offices, regardless of race, ethnic group, or age. (4:0) In summary, the organization is continuously fighting for constitutional support ofequal rights for women. Once a member of the NWPC, a woman is motivated and trained in a variety of areas related to public office, regardless of their party affiliation. Congress, from 5 to 21 percent of state legislatures, and from 1 to 18 percent of major populated city mayors. Their everyday purpose continues to offer women a chance to enter politics. Mental, psychological and monetary assistance is often provided to battered women who wish to escape repressive home situations. Each year women continue to close the gap in the political arena with great support from both men and women in America.
