Some thirty years later she was exonerated of all guilt. During these victories the king was able to enter realms and be crowned as king of France with her at his side. She was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. After months of imprisonment, she was tried at Rouen. Bishop Peter Cauchon hoped that the English would help him become Archbishop if he helped them destroy Joan of Arc. The chief rival of France, Duke of Burgundy was forming an alliance with the English king and conquering more French territory. The English took advantage of her inability to come up with any proof of her experience with the saints. After she overcame an opposition from churchmen and courtiers, the 17-year-old girl was given a small army.
Joan of Arc was born to pious parents in the obscure village of Domeremy, near the province of Lorraine. Her determination also helped her to achieve her goal to unite all of France under one king, Charles VII, and defeating France’s enemies at the time, England.
