Effects of Inactivity
Have you ever had that one annoying little cousin who used to come to your house when you were younger? Well I had that cousin, and I dreaded the day little Zachary was to come to my house. One situation that comes to mind is when I duct taped his hands together and shot him with the giant arrows that came from my Nerf Gun. This wasn't done to hurt him; it was just a lesson for him so he wouldn't bother me so much. Now I've never used zip-ties to torture any of my younger relatives, but there are many other uses for duct tape and the little plastic strips that click end-to-end to make a strong hold, otherwise known as zip-ties. No tapes stick to wet surfaces or hold up to water better than duct tape. It sticks to any dirty surface, and it doesn't come un-done unless you un-do it. Over the summer, I had a Kiddy Pool for my dog to play in when it was hot out, and one day it had ripped and water came pouring out of the gash. One thought came to mind, "Go get the duct tape!" I rushed to the garage and grabbed the duct tape and slapped a few strips on the gash. Wouldn't you know, the water stop
When the day comes that I run out of duct tape, the trip to Costco is full of joy. You can even make a tent with duct tape. When I went back up to her to tell her I was done, she didn't believe me that I only used three Zip-ties to do it. They can be used to organize wires behind your television, or you can tie up the front bumper of your car, and I have seen that done. They are a great way to hold something together that won't come un-done on you. The hook had fallen off the shelf, and my boss said to me, "Derek, I was wondering if you could fix this broken hook for me?" I said to her, "Sure, do we have any zip-ties?" A few zips later, the hook was back up, sturdier than before. It is amazing what you can do with your mind and some ingenuity. Policemen are even using large zip-ties instead of handcuffs, because they are easier to put on, they're hard for the person to take off, and you can carry a lot more of them. When you hear the clicking of the ties, you know you have a secure hold of something. It would be waterproof, strong, and sturdy. Just the other day while I was at work at the elementary school, one of the kids that was attending the extended day program, had hung his backpack up on a hook. Everywhere you look, you see duct tape being used to do or fix something! Duct tape may not be able to fix everything, but whatever can't be fixed, can easily be fixed by zip-ties. Duct tape is probably the most important object to have on a camping trip besides food. I have a new role of duct tape under my seat in my truck, and a bag of ties in my glove department.
