The Big Journey

It was the year 2056, Jonathan Burke, Sam Hiltz and I (Chris Landry) were setting up to go on the greatest expedition in the history of the world. We were going to travel to the centre of the earth. We had attempted the same thing about four year’s back, but due to some unfortunate incidences the expedition was postponed until another time. We had to find a new company to grant us some money, because the one that had originally planed to give us two million dollars backed out. Luckily we did just that, and now here we are today in good old Nova Scotia preparing ourselves for a week of excitement and adventure.

I had just finished packing everything in the car when I got a call from Jonathan, he said that the plane was waiting at the airport for me and we would be leaving in about twenty-five minutes. I told him that I was going to be a little late because I had to pick up Sam on the way. Forty-five minutes later I pulled up in Sam’s driveway, not a good way to start the trip. Sam was sitting there patiently with his arms folded across his chest.

“Hey Chris, where were you buddy, you’re late.” He said with a little smirk on his face.

. . .

The last layer that we came to was the inner core it is a sphere of 2,400km. It is made up of mainly iron rock, that is three times the density of the crust and is heated over 3,800 C.

We collected samples from each layer that we passed through, and when we got back to the surface we told everyone about our adventure to the earth’s core, and made lots of money because we made a movie. Sam, Jonathan and I had invented a vehicle that we would stay in when we enter the earth.

Our plain was to enter the earth through an active volcano; we researched all the volcanoes in Hawaii and decided that Mauna Loa would be perfect spot. ”

“Yeah for the whole like three people that are going to be there. ” Nobody really believed that we could do it, I mean it isn’t like anyone had actually ever been to the centre of the earth, and the odds didn’t seem to be on our favour. We didn’t get to see what the earth’s crust looked as we travelled 40km down through the inside of the volcano.

I was the navigator, Jonathan was the pilot, and Sam was the engineer. Sam is a pretty lade back guy, he doesn’t get worked up over things like this.

Then we came to the outer core, it is extremely hot, and is made up of molten iron and nickel.

When we finally got to the airport, it was about an hour since Jonathan had called, he wasn’t very impressed.
