The Death Penalty

             For the last several years I have always been interested in the Death Penalty. As I became older and have learned more about the Death Penalty I have been very curious on why it is still constitutional in most states. There are many reasons for why I have always wondered this. In the Constitution it states that there should be no cruel and unusual punishments when it seems like the death penalty can be very cruel and unusual. I don't know everything about the death penalty, but from what I know and have learned I don't feel it should be legal anymore. I have always wanted to learn more about its history and see how others feel about it also.
             The first time the death penalty was ever utilized was in 1622 to a man named Daniel Frank who was caught steeling. Around that time in the United States "Death penalty statistic were not kept properly until 1930"(Day 5). Threw out history though we have been told that "from 1882 through 1951 there where 4,730 recorded lynchings by vigilantes in the US (Crime). While since 1930 there have been more that 4,300 people executed in the United States. Which is a lot of people when you recall that from 1930-1967 3,859 of those 4,300 executions took place. We also have to put into consideration that a cease on executions began in 1967 and lasted to around 1977. They began again "with a blast of gunfire"(6), to a man "Gary Gilmore, a convicted murderer, was executed by a firing squad on January 17, 1977"(6) which is talked about in the book The Death Penalty for Teen. This shows us that the death penalty has been used very much so in the past and is still going to be in use for many years since at this time there are more than 3,300 people sitting on death row in the United States.
             Even know in the United States we have so many people on death row awaiting their executions there are many other countries and a few states that have abolished...
