acid rain

Acid rain is a result of gas that dissolves in the rainwater. It can be found the form of rain, snow, fog or dust. Acid rain has been on the increase ever since the industrial revolution and has really become evident in recent decades. 70 percent of acid rain comes from SO2 that dissolves into the water to form sulphuric acid. The other 30 percent comes various oxides of nitrogen, mainly NO2 and NO3, as a group called NOx. More than 90 percent of the sulphur and 95 percent of the nitrogen emissions occurring in eastern North America are of human origin. These pollutants arise from the use of coal in the production of electricity, from base metal smelting, and from fuel combustion in vehicles. They can be also converted chemically into such secondary pollutants as nitric acid and sulphuric acid, both which dissolve easily in water.Sulphur dioxide is a byproduct of industrial processes and burning of fossil fuels. The main contributors of SO2 are coal fired generators, and natural gas processing. 61 percent of Canada's emissions come directly from industrial sources, while 66 percent if the U.S.' emissions are from the electrical utilities. The estimated transboundary

Forests and plant life is also a huge victim of acid rain. As these crystals grow, they break apart the stone, and the structure crumbles. Acid rain looks, feels and tastes just like normal clean water; even swimming in it is no more dangerous than it is in clean water. 6 because of carbon dioxide that is naturally present in the atmosphere. For example, the Capitol building in Ottawa has been disintegrating because of excess sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere. Also, forest floors are left full of organic material that cannot be cycled efficiently. Canadian NOx emissions have declined slightly, from 2. flow of sulphur dioxide from the United States to Canada was between 3. Plus, the population of fish progressively decreases. Direct damage can happen to forest at high-elevated places because they're exposed to a greater amount of acid because of think acidic clouds and fog. Another harmful way in which acids can enter the lakes is spring acid shock.
