Proctor and Hale

John Proctor and John Hale have very similar characteristics, in their actions and motives. Yet they are different in an equal amounts. Although Hale was a believer in witchcraft and is licensed to find and stop it, he doesn’t feel it is present in Salem. John Proctor doesn’t truly believe in witchcraft, and he definitely knows that the girls aren’t seeing anything. What similarities and differences are present in Proctor’s and Hale’s character.

But Hale isn’t there to save his life or any of his loved ones unlike Proctor. But not all their traits are similar. He also uses profanity and often yells during his trial. The Salem witch trials was a misjudged trial. Now John Hale uses proper language as seen “Excellency, this child has gone wild. As one can tell John doesn’t like evil and doesn’t like hearing word of it. Proctor too tried to save his life but didn’t succeed, but he did get to keep his good name and his spirit. The witchcraft trials in Salem led to many innocent people killed. ” Uses proper language to address the judge. John Hale on the Other hand is a minister and is forbidden to lie or speak false testimony. Proctors aren’t as pure but they do the same actions to try and stop false testimony of the girls.

Proctor is in the story to stop witchcraft to save his wife Elizabeth and to stop death of innocent people.
