The cause of this problem includes war, corrupt governments, civil unrest and poverty. Reasons for this great number of refugees include war, repression, civil unrest, and politically induced humanitarian emergencies. Mother Teresa helped the poor and those seeking asylum. eople left their homes in search of food.

The Christian teaching on this issue is that Australia should accept and help the boat people. This help includes legal advice, protection and settlement support. To prevent these problems new laws have been made. This was Jesus’ most important teaching. Africa is a continent that has suffered the world's most invasive violence during 2000 and in early 2001. The Refugee Council of Australia helps refugees that have arrived in Australia. Nearly 3 million Africans became new refugees or were newly displaced within their own countries during 2000. Auscare help people so they have basic needs, good health and an education. The government is also trying to work with other countries to disrupt people smugglers and intercept the boat people, and then helping those who are refugees. The Catholic Social Teaching also says that we should put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. The Catholic Social Teaching on this issue is that we need to help those in need.
