The term sport is used very loosely in society, but people do not fully understand its diverse meaning. There are hundreds of different sports played globally. Field Lacrosse is an increasingly popular, well-known sport throughout the New World. Long Pole is the main defensive position in this game. Being a successful member to a team demands various abilities, such as being in excellent physical condition, having perseverance, and most importantly having commitment.

Superb physical condition not only improves your health, but is essential in stopping a 6 foot 6 inch, 275 pound player from getting to the net. Speed is indispensable for a Long Pole. The ability to get to the opposing man before he gets to you is a necessity. Without speed this would be extremely difficult. Speed is a primary benefit of good physical condition, along with strength. Being able to physically stop an opponent will make the game drastically easier. Strength allows the long pole to easily overpower the opposing player, and makes it seem almost effortless to physically deprive the adversary of a goal. If not committed, winning is not an option. Being a long pole is the hardest part of any field lacrosse team. Although anyone can attempt to play field lacrosse, it takes a special person to succeed. Determination follows the word perseverance, which a long pole must not lack, along with selflessness. This desire burns deep in the soul of long poles, it is what drives them in the last practice of the week to try their hardest, and not to give up. In fact, it is a long pole’s mission upon stepping on to the field to hurt anyone standing in his way. A long pole should walk on to the field not thinking, but knowing that he will win, and that no one can beat him. The ability to place the stick where the long pole wants it is critical. Practicing that much creates a great strain on both mental and physical aspects of life, but being able to fight through this separates the men from the boys. I have learned these qualities from a personal perspective. If the long pole did not put all of his heart into the game, the idea of commitment would be discarded. nce between winning and losing a game. All long poles have selflessness in one way or another. Practicing once a week is acceptable if the long pole does not mind losing, but having the endurance to practice five times a week for four months produces a true winner.
