“ When he uttered that childhood wish – ‘to do some good for this world’ – he was reflecting all the gifts that had been given him, of goodness, gentleness, and warmth of spirit: he was one of those who thought earnestly that he owed the world a living, not vice versa” (Gunther 22). Johnny was concerned of those around him, not of himself. He felt that life was a precious gift that was given

. . .

If he was not trying to think of new theories, he was reading or writing articles.

“… It may seem an odd thing to write, but by this time we knew something of how lucky Johnny was, granted that he had to have a brain tumor at all,” (Gunther 98). It was made after Johnny was able to use a real shampoo again. He defiantly had the qualifications of getting into a college such as Harvard, if death were not brought upon him as such. This was a statement made by Gunther, who knew to be grateful for Johnny’s life. He used all his knowledge to the best of it and put all his effort into everything he did. to him and he was willing to repay it. In this case Gunther remembers how Johnny wanted to have some classmates visit him, but hesitated for that he thought they might get bored.

“ Particularly I remember Johnny’s considerateness, even when he got sicker,” (Gunther 61). Johnny Gunther defiantly was grateful for what he had, because it could have been gone on any day. Even when Johnny was having his life torn out of his hands, he was still a considerate, polite, caring person. Johnny and his parents were people who were optimistic in every aspect. Although he was sickly and on the verge of losing his life, he cherished what he had. He proved to everyone that he was not going to let the little bit of life he had left just go to waste, he was going to do something with it.
