A leader is defined as somebody whom people follow. However, there is much more than that to be a great leader. A leader must be honest to his supporters because he or she needs their trust. The leader must have a clear vision and show the people that vision. Most importantly, a leader must have the support of the people to give him a foundation to build on. President George W. Bush has exhibited these qualities and proven himself to be a great leader.
One of the most needed qualities of a leader is honesty. A leader must display sincerity, integrity, and candor in all of his or her actions. Deceptive behavior would discourage the trust from supporters. President Bush has proven himself to be an honest man even before he was elected. In the days prior to the presidential election, Bush was questioned about a drunk driving arrest. During the Labor Day weekend of 1976, Bush, who was 30 at the time, was arrested driving under the influence that he pleaded guilty to doing. “I regret that it happened, but it did,” he said. “I’m the first to say that what I did was wrong and I’ve corrected that. “America was targeted for attack because we’re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. According to a Newsweek poll, eighty-six percent of the people polled approved of Bush’s work (“Bush’s”). People need a clear idea of where they are going and why the goal should be important to them. “We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them,” he told the nation (Bush). He has used his sincerity, clear vision of what he wants to happen, and support of the people to rally the nation after the tragedy. “This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace” (Bush). In his address to the nation after the World Trade Center attacks, Bush spoke with true emotion and sincerity. President Bus’s campaign for election was clearly based around cutting taxes. “By helping tens of millions of Americans, we will help our economy. As everyday ends, Bush is proving more and more that he is a worthy leader. Bush rallied the nation by vowing revenge.
With the constant pressure from the public since the World Trade Center attacks, George W. Seventy-one percent of Americans support military action against terrorists and the countries that harbor them (“Bush’s”).
