Natural Moral Laws

There is both a positive and negative aspect to natural moral law. A negative aspect would be that natural moral laws are traditionally things that you are not supposed to do. Such as “do not kill” and “do not steal”. A positive aspect would be that certain laws protect and benefit people.

ristian tradition and focus on the laws that are given to us, you will notice that the majority of the commandments begin with “Thou shall not…” The commandments are a good example because they are laws given to us by God. The positive aspect helps us to realize what God has done for us. The laws that he gave us were not to harm us, but to help us know the right from the wrong. These kinds of laws contribute to our negative outlook on all laws.

The positive aspect of natural law tells us of all the good things that come from natural law. Some of the natural moral laws given to us may not be negative, but when we act in a way against these laws, they become negative to us and to others. For example, natural laws provide the basis for good order, protect and benefit people and give all people equal rights. They help us to be ourselves, act naturally and be true to human nature.
