Matrix and Matt's Gospel
The Wachowski brothers picture, " The Matrix " has many parallels to the Gospel ofMatthew, and basically the overall story of Jesus. In the movie Thomas Anderson, or Neo is a legitimate computer programmer by day, and an outlaw hacker by night. He is ever searching for a mysterious recluse, wanted by the authorities, named Morpheus. What he doesn't knowis that Morpheus is also searching for him, because he is the One. This part of the story line has a very obvious and deliberate correlation with the story of John the Baptist, whom Jesusfollowed for a time, and was eventually baptized by him. In "The Matrix" though, instead of following his teachings and being one of his disciples, Neo is searching for him through news
Also it's been acknowledged by actors in the movie, and the Wachowski brothers the elements are there intentionally. On the way back from the Oracle the team isbetrayed by Cypher (Judas), and Morpheus is subsequently captured by the agentswhen he attacks them to distract them, so Neo can get away. Neo knew that if he didn't get Morpheus our of the Matrix, all of humanity would be doomed. So Neo knowing he'll die, pretty much sacrificing himself for humanity like Jesus did, goes back into the matrix with Trinity, and triesto save him. Another, and perhaps more interesting correlation with Matt's Gospel and "The Matrix" is Neo's sacrifice. s over the internet for presumably a long time, and his baptism is not just a simple pouring of water over his head, but he is awaken from the matrix, a computer program developed to keep the human race asleep so they can be used as batteries for a race of intelligent machines. After his deaththough, Trinity finally declared her love for him and kisses him, sort of similarto the 'breath of life'. She says thatone of them is going to die, and that the choice would be in his hands, his decisionwhether he or Morpheus would die. The final correlation I've seen between the John the Baptist inthe Gospel of Matthew and Morpheus is that Morpheus, in the real world, has been foretelling and preaching that the one would come soon, and prepared the way for him,and helped him to realize he was really 'the one'. He does indeed save him, and Morpheus escapse, but Neo himselfis caught and trapped by agents. Neo is then resurected from the dead, although it's not3 days after he died, the room number on the door is 303, and this could correspond. Anyway the Oracle had predicted this resurection althoughNeo couldn't have seen it coming, she told him "your waiting for something"after Neo asks what she tells him " maybe your next life or something". Back at the ship theremaining members of the crew are about to unplug, and kill Morpheus, because nomatter how hard he fights the agents will eventually get the codes to Zion, and be able to destroy all of humanity.
