             When it comes to designing, testing and manufacturing aircraft engines of today, there are really only three choices available to consumers. Pratt & Whitney is one of theses manufactures with the other two being General Electric, and Rolls Royce. These manufactures alone dominate this lucrative and ever changing market. When an aircraft today is ordered from either Boeing or Airbus, consumers are asked if they have a preference on which engine they would like to have installed on their newly ordered aircraft. This is a very important question in the eyes of the engine manufactures; do to the fact that, after the airframe the engine is the largest, most "brand-identifiable" product on the aircraft raging between 15-30% of the total cost. This is why engine manufacturers spend a considerable amount of time and money marketing their engines. They will stress such items as reliability, quality, and durability in their marketing plans to potential customers to try and win them over from their competitors. Pratt & Whitney one of these engine manufacturers has worked hard throughout the years trying to always be one step ahead of its competitors, while also promoting safe and time-tested dependable engines. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corporation, and they are a major supplier of commercial, general aviation, and military aircraft engines, along with spare parts, product support and a full range of aftermarket and fleet management services. They are also considered to be a leader in the design, manufacture and support of space propulsion systems. The company is reported as employing around 30,000 people worldwide and achieving sales of $7.36 billion for the year 2000.
