this fact, there were many differences between their works. Malory's Morte d' Arthur was
a negative work that was very negative in his descriptive aspects. While, T. H. White
was more positive and upbeat with his descriptions in The Book of Merlin.
Malory used and showed many negative events throughout Morte d' Arthur. He
also, used negative words to describe the events that took place in his works. For
example, when most of the soldiers died, "the thieves would rob the dead knights of their
bodies" (172). This type of action was very disrespectful to those who died in the battle.
More of Malory's negative details was exhibited when "Sir Bedivere would not throw the
Excalibur into the water" (173). Malory used words like "traitor" and "betrayed" to give
Sir Bedivere this negative image, because he did not follow orders, of his king, which
was very disrespectful. Keep in mind that when he wrote this story that a lengthy and
dangerous war was going on in England and many of these happenings in Malory's story
was fact in on the warfront in Europe.

time period. White
did not focus so much on the dark and death aspect on the battlefield. These two elements played a major role in the way White wrote
The Book of Merlin. Such as when the battle between Sir Mordred and King Arthur took place he
says, " that pierced the helmet and the casing of the brain" (172) Instead of just saying
that the sword hit the helmet, he goes into great detail to describe the battle between the
two. he lay foaming at the mouth and part of his guts lay on his feet"
(172). Malory
wrote in a straight-laced, serious manner. For example, Lancelot's
death was described as "dreamed of bells sounding most beautifully, and of angels, with
happy laughter, hauling Lancelot to Heaven" (133). they looked more terrible than they felt. so a great description
of blood and gore. These reasons are why Malory was such a negative and dark writer. Lancelot gives of himself "devotes his life to worship"
(132). Whereas
Malory describes death as dark and dreary.
