Malory and White
Thomas Mallory and T. H. White were authors of the same subject. In spite ofthis fact, there were many differences between their works. Malory's Morte d' Arthur wasa negative work that was very negative in his descriptive aspects. While, T. H. Whitewas more positive and upbeat with his descriptions in The Book of Merlin. Malory used and showed many negative events throughout Morte d' Arthur. Healso, used negative words to describe the events that took place in his works. Forexample, when most of the soldiers died, "the thieves would rob the dead knights of theirbodies" (172). This type of action was very disrespectful to those who died in the battle. More of Malory's negative details was exhibited when "Sir Bedivere would not throw theExcalibur into the water" (173). Malory used words like "traitor" and "betrayed" to giveSir Bedivere this negative image, because he did not follow orders, of his king, whichwas very disrespectful. Keep in mind that when he wrote this story that a lengthy anddangerous war was going on in England and many of these happenings in Malory's storywas fact in on the warfront in Europe. Not only did Malory use negative events and phrases, but al
He wrote Morte d' Arthur during the Medievaltime period. Whitedid not focus so much on the dark and death aspect on the battlefield. These two elements played a major role in the way White wroteThe Book of Merlin. Such as when the battle between Sir Mordred and King Arthur took place hesays, " that pierced the helmet and the casing of the brain" (172) Instead of just sayingthat the sword hit the helmet, he goes into great detail to describe the battle between the two. he lay foaming at the mouth and part of his guts lay on his feet" (172). Malorywrote in a straight-laced, serious manner. For example, Lancelot'sdeath was described as "dreamed of bells sounding most beautifully, and of angels, withhappy laughter, hauling Lancelot to Heaven" (133). they looked more terrible than they felt. so a great descriptionof blood and gore. These reasons are why Malory was such a negative and dark writer. Lancelot gives of himself "devotes his life to worship"(132). WhereasMalory describes death as dark and dreary.
