The fall of the Beatles

Some people think that egos were what did it; some people think that Yoko Ono did it; some think that Linda did it. Everyone has their own theory as to what made the Beatles break up. "I just think the reason (they broke up) is that they had been to Mars and back, and they had just had enough. I think they all still loved their music, and they all still loved each other, but it's a metamorphosis that they went through"(Douglas Herbert, CNN writer). Get off your gold disc and fly" (John Lennon quoted in The Herald Sun, Oct. There is a letter that went up for auction this year at about $240,000 from Lennon to Linda and Paul McCartney in 1970.

Their songwriting was a catalyst for break up as well. This letter contains angry mood swings, expletives, and even kind words from John to Paul. Every other McCartney song that we spoke about had a quote from Lennon bashing it. Lennon and McCartney were no longer collaborating on songs and there were feelings of bitterness between them. Lennon also speaks of the MBEs that they received and other issues that came with their fame.
