Often, the thought of engaging in sports has been equated with the state of being in good mental health. Through many different studies it has been proven that playing sports has a psychologically beneficial impact on women. Not only does playing sports have a helpful impact on anxiety, depression, emotion, and mood, but it also has a constructive effect on self-esteem and body image. Many women suffer from having a negative body image, but playing sports has been a great solution toward improving women's self-confidence and self-esteem. The positive psychological effects that playing sports has on women directly has a positive effect on women's health as well. Playing sports has an anxiety reducing effect on women. Physical activity over a long duration of time can reduce trait anxiety; also moderate aerobic exercise is most likely to result in the reductions in state anxiety. Participating in sports can reduce short-term physiological reactivity to and enhance recovery from stressors. This has been shown in studies, which have used subjective self-report measures of anxiety as well as those that have used objective measures of physiological stimulation. Having exercise goals that relate to personal performance and improvement is associated with moderate to high positive emotion. Positive effects are likely to be greater in women with initially low self-esteems. There is a positive effect between physical activity and psychological well being. e women suffer less from stress and stress associated illnesses than the non-active. A women's physical self-worth and other important self-perceptions such as body image can be improved by playing sports. When a woman gives into these ideals that is when problems with the way she views herself begin to surface. Once a woman has goals, she can work towards the goal and create a better work ethic to be motivated. Women who do not participate in sports usually diet or stress over their weight. There are no noted negative side effects of exercise treatment of depression; in most cases there are only positive occurrences. During out session body temperature increases, beta-endorphins increase, there is reduced muscle tension, there is and increase in parasympathetic activity, thus resulting in a reduction in the excitability of the nervous system. Following regular exercise women will notice daily activities become easier, such as; walking up a flight of stairs, running to a bus, playing with a dog. Women also take it upon themselves to just stress over the fact that they do not fit this ideal that society has created and just eat more.
