I. Problem, purpose and significance of study:
Schools need better involvement from parents, dealing with their child's' educational well being. There are not enough parents involved in the educational lives of their children. A solution is needed to get more participation.
Getting parents more involved can help increase student performance. Will getting parents to see their cooperation with homework is needed cause them to get more involved? I feel that the more parents see that they can help their child become successful, the more they will want to help. Academic achievement can be greatly attained by students if they have those resources and help, at their disposal, i.e. parent involvement.
Definition of terms: parental-whoever is responsible for that child's well-being, or guardian
II. REVIEW OF LITERATURE IS ATTACHED
I took the same third grade class, which is my intact group because they were put there by computer at the start of that year. This class has twenty students.
The class of twenty is the experimental group. They will create letters to be read by their parents when they take their work home. The parents will respond to the letter and send it back with their student. The class of twenty is also the control group and they will take their work home in the folder as usual. Normally, the homework would is sent home in the folder and hopefully the parents would take an interest in it.
Now, I plan to send the work home with a letter from the student petitioning their parents to help them with their assignment and marking down that they helped.
This was a four week study, with two weeks as the control group and two weeks as the experimental group.
Hypothesis: I feel that parents who receive the note from the child will be more willing to help than those who do not receive any notice from their child.
