Stunt Man vs. Iphigenia in Tauris

The similarities of the two stories are apparent at times and very subtle at others. Each has its own plot and purpose. Euripides’s play was a comedy concluding the story of Orestes and the family of Agamemnon. It was a story of family and reunion, as well as purification. The movie, Stunt Man, is a story about a young Vietnam veteran’s return to normal life and his adjustment to civilian life again. It is a story of conflict between fantasy and reality.

In the Stunt Man many of the characters mirror or parallel characters from the play. The director, Eli is similar to an Apollo character. He sends Cameron on different and more dangerous stunts throughout the course of the film. He calls all the shots on the set and is feared and respected by all the cast and crew. He portrays himself as a God, claiming to have the ability to take and give life. Threatening to “kill” anyone who interfered with his movie or disobeyed him. Cameron, the young Vietnam vet, is the Orestes of the movie. He is given tasks to

. . .

They are both homes of all women, although the ones in the movie are far from chaste. The final scene takes place at a shoreline after a great escape, both from the Furies, or Police and Taurians, or Germans.

Many things about the movie are similar to the play, but most things have a Hollywood twist. ” In the end, when he crashes the car off the bridge and everything seems to be going wrong, Cameron finds a way to save himself and in doing so saves himself from the Police, his Furies. perform, the stunts, by Eli and who is hounded and followed by the Police, the Furies at every turn. The German soldiers only pretend to be “barbarians” and the crime committed by Cameron, is hardly a crime worthy of the relentless pursuit by the Furies. ” Cameron and Nina attempt to runaway or escape the night before the final day of shooting. Cameron and Nina are lovers instead of brother and sister, while Ray is a mentor rather than a close friend. Even the scene in which Cameron is told by Sam, the writer or Euripides of the film, that Nina had slept with Eli twice a long time again, Iphigenia is eluded to when Sam asks Cameron “Was she supposed to be a virgin?” And Cameron replies “Yes. The other members of the cast and crew, mostly portrayed as German soldiers in the filming, parallel wonderfully with the Taurians. Even in the movie, “the gods save those who save themselves. They search for and attempt to capture and kill Cameron, or Orestes, through the filming of the movie. When Cameron is told he will receive $1000 for the final stunt, and Eli tells him that it only worth $650, it is an example of that age-old adage…”Never trusts the Gods…”

. Nina tells Cameron that she cannot live without him and that she wishes to leave with him.
