Comparison of Values

Christopher Columbus, Bartolome De Las Casas, and Today’s Society:

Issues of morality have been implemented into society since the beginning of time. Human beings have been granted the gift of free will and should utilize it insistently and meticulously. Morality and ethics are essential in society to retain stability and keep anarchy from detonating. Christian explorer, Christopher Columbus was deficient in moral character when he departed for his voyage to the islands that were initially inhabited by Indians. Not all of Columbus’ counterparts shared the same negative moral character as he did. Bartolome de Las Casas obtained a more solid ethical quality than what Columbus offered. Columbus and La Casas can be compared to the actions of the vile attacks on New York City on September 11, 2001 committed by a group of Arabic terrorists.

Both of these events were intrusive acts conducted by others from a foreign land. Bartolome de Las Casas initially heard of Columbus voyage while he was a student in Seville, Spain. Columbus and his Christian friends had no reverence for the Indian’s life or their soil.
