Domestic Violence
Every 15 seconds a woman is abused. Domestic Violence, as defined by The National Victim Assistance Academy, is any assault, battery, sexual assault, sexual battery, or any criminal offense resulting in personal injury or death of one family or household member by another, who is or was residing in the same single dwelling unit. "Family or household member" refers to a spouse, former spouse, persons related by blood or by marriage, persons who are presently residing together, as if a family, or who have resided together in the past, as if a family, and persons who have a child in common regardless of whether they have been married or have resided together at any time.(Domestic Violence) Domestic violence also, of course, includes violence committed against children. Some may not realize they are being abused. Many who are psychologically abused are "brainwashed". It is the least reported for of abuse. They are made to believe they deserve what they get. In a sample of over 900 married women, 14% reported that they had been sexually assaulted by their husbands. The obvious solution would be for the victim to help themselves. Sometimes it even results in murder. Physical abuse includes pushing, shoving, hitting, assault with a weapon, holding and restraining, leaving victim in dangerous places, and refusing to help when the victim is ill. This type of abuse includes making the victim perform sexual acts again his or her will, pursuing sexual activity when victim is not fully conscious, physically abusing during sex, assaulting genitals in any manner, coercing sex with out protection against the will of a victim, and calling the victim degrading names. Sometimes they are blind to the fact that something is wrong. "(Vachss) Physical, psychological, and sexual abuse are all horrible and unacceptable acts. Physical abuse is usually recurrent and gets worse and more frequent at time goes on.
