Having Our Say ( Comparisons)
In the book, Having Our Say by Sarah L. and A. Elizabeth Delany, and Amy Hill Hearth, main characters, Bessie and Sadie Delany, can compare in many ways. They hold a very strong position on life long issues such as, religion, racial equality, and valiancy. These similarities cause the sisters to cope with each other, problems and anything they encounter. The religious point of view, shared by the sisters, can be compared in many ways. Since the sisters lived to be 106 and 104, they have lived through a lot of events. Every morning, directly after they wake, both sisters bless the day. "And the first thing I do when I open my eyes is smile, and then I say, "Thank you, Lord, for another day!" "(288) From the moment these girls were born, they learned to serve the Earth and it's people with masses of respect. Bot
Jim Crow laws were laws that restricted the confrontation between blacks and whites. Why, I've helped a lot of folks, even some white folks!"(299) This is why I believe Bessie and Sadie have a similar religious point of view. "(93) Bessie and Sadie were strong-hearted women. "We knew Mama would have to go to Glory sometime; she was a very old lady. Bessie spoke about how Sadie would sit at a meal, see Mama's chair empty, and begin to bawl. First and foremost, these two African American women have experienced a lot of racial encounters; their view on racial equality is backed by decades of experience. In the end of the book, Bessie says, "I'm thinking: Maybe I'll get into Heaven after all. "(99) During this time, many lives changed. Although if they were kind to a white person and they were not kind back, the sisters would lose respect for them very easily. h Bessie and Sadie are raised to think they will not get into heaven if they do not treat everyone, who deserves it, with respect. Sadie stopped eating so it was Bessie's job to help her out. They had a lot of respect for white people. If it weren't for Bessie and Sadie's strong belief in racial equality, they would not have been as happy as they had been. Throughout Bessie and Sadie's life, the have barley lowered their chins.
