Smoking, Acceptable Risk
The risks of smoking are very well known. However, millions of people still smoke. Why? I can't say why other people still smoke even though the effects of cigarette smoke are well know, but I can say why I still decide to smoke cigarettes. In this paper I will try to attempt to give the reader some information on cigarette smoking and then explain why I consider smoking an acceptable risk. Most of this paper is based on my experience and my knowledge. First some back ground. I started smoking when I was about 20 years old. Mostly I smoked because every one else that was around me also smoked. I was in the U. S. Army at the time and taking a cigarette break was something the non-smokers could not do. Through the years I have smoked on and off. Recently I had quit for 18 months and just 2 months ago I started smoking again. Later in this paper I will give you the reasons why.Most people know the effects of cigarette smoking. Cigarette smoking is the major cause of: "h Lung disease, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis These are serious health problems. Also, passive smoking, also know as second hand smoking, which is the smoke inhaled by non-smoke
Obesity is associated with more than 30 medical conditions. The health effects of my smoking probably will not show for years to come, but I have lost 25 pounds and feel a lot better about my self. I thought I was doing something good my health. Persons with obesity are at risk of developing one or more serious medical conditions, which can cause poor health and premature death. Not only were there serious health problems but also I was stressed, always tired, and feeling very bad about my self. Scientific evidence has established a strong relationship between obesity and at least 15 conditions, and preliminary data show the impact of obesity on numerous other conditions. " The study showed the obese tend to have far more health problems than daily smokers do. So now she is smoking about 10 cigarettes a day instead of the pack and a half she used to smoke. The weight I had gained exposed me to numerous health conditions that I was unaware of. I changed my smoking habit also, in order to not affect non-smokers with second had smoke. Her doctor ordered her to quit smoking. rs who are around smokers, is know to cause the same if not more harm. I was worried about her smoking again because of the emphysema, but seeing her disposition and how she seems more full of life now that she is smoking that when she quit, I must agree with the doctor. Eating had replaced smoking as a way of coping with things.
