Advance Placement European History- Syllabus1. Important historical figures during the High Middle Ages.1. The idea of scholasticism was published in his book the Summa Thelogical 3. John Wycliff- Wycliff was an English theologian and religious rebel. Because he was all the way in England the Roman Catholic Church could not kill him.4. Jon Hus- Hus was a theologian and religious rebel in Bohemia (Check/Slovakia). He was close enough to Rome and the Papacy that could get him and he was burned on the stake. 5. Henry II of England- Henry II was the first English justice. He created a common law for his land and set up the first judicial system with judges and juries. But, the system was in favor of him. 6. William the Conquer- Also known as William the duke of Normandy. He leads the Norman invasion of


Thomas More- He was a humanist, king's advisor, but a devoted Catholic. Sacraments- Protestants had 2 and Catholic had 710. Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire- He was the emperor who fought the French out of Italy; also he was Catharine of Aragon's uncle so the pope could not grant Henry VIII of England a divorce, causing the Catholic Church to be booted out of England. Reconquista- The marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella in Spain started an era where Jews and Arabs would be expelled form Spain, because they were viewed hostile to Catholism. Because of this Russia developed at slower rate. This eventually created the great schisms. Marsilio Ficino- A neo-Platonist who founded humanistic ideas. William of Occam- A 14th century theologian and religious dissident in England.
