Noam chomsky

Noam Chomsky asserts that the power elites of society shape public opinion and set the agenda for our society- and that in this way, they maintain their system of control. There are a small number of people that are given "permission" to use up the Earth's resources. The problem is that the people who are not in this small number are led to believe that these issues are not important and so are discouraged from having an opinion. He argues that because of this, that real democracy is subverted and we do not even debate the important issues at hand, such as the depletion of the Earth's resources. In my paper, I

Those large corporations hold so much control over the media that any time a contrasting viewpoint makes its way into the media industries, that viewpoint is quietly dismissed. We as a society are led away from thinking that there even is a problem; and for the people that do believe that there is a problem, we merely label them as overreacting. There is a great lack of "real news" out in the world today. There can be nothing that actually drives them to sit down and think about an issue, for that would depress the viewer and thus lose them as an audience. Each day when we turn on the news, we are getting (in a sense) entertained for 30 minutes. So do we really have such a democracy? Are we not all entitled to our own opinions? Sure, as long as that opinion does not hamper with the views of the small number of large corporations out there. will discuss why I believe that Chomsky's assertion is in fact true. Large corporations, along with the media control a large part of our daily lives. Shows such as "Entertainment Tonight" show this phenomenon-where people would rather learn about the glamour and excitement than depleting resources. In order to find the real and important information, one has to dig deep into government files and alternative news stories. A great deal of important information is diluted for "the sake of the viewer". In many ways Noam Chomsky's viewpoint points to factual and relevant information. This is not done by accident either.
