A weekend of Nascar racing
Since its creation The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has been verypopular in the southern states. But, in the past ten years its popularity has increased drastically across the country. This can be seen in the number of new speedways built with the main purpose of holding a NASCAR event, though they may only be visited once or twice in the ten month season this can be the main source of income for most of these tracks. For a fan going to a race it is not just a one day event, but an entire weekend ritual. Your weekend starts bright and early on Friday morning, groups of people will already be lining up to enter the speedway, so get there early if you want to avoid the longest lines. You may choose to stay at a hotel nearby the speedway, but room prices will be very expensive since you are stay over during a race weekend. Your best bet is to get a group of friends and take a camper, this way you can stay in the speedways “Infield”, which is the large grassy area inside most speedways. This area serves as a campground during races. Staying in the infield has a lot of advantage over staying in a hotel room. You do not have to enter and exit the speedway everyday plus you can usually get discount . . .
Unlike other athletes most drivers are very down to earth and would be happy to sign a autograph or pose with you for a picture. You also get to meet a lot of interesting people who will be staying around you who share a common interest with you. Drivers also have to be aware of other drivers on the track. On Friday night you may want to go out on the town. Each track has it own personality and drivers have given each track it own nickname. The tire used depends on the drivers preference, which may change halfway through the race. Happy hour counts as a practice round so drivers are not concerned with winning or losing. Simple strategy to win the race is go fast, try to avoid accidents, and stay out of “The Big One”, the crash that involves a group of several or more cars that usually happens once during a race. Try and find a local and ask them where in town may there be a popular restaurant or bar that drivers might hang out at that night. Since the bottom of the track is shorter around, but the top of the track is faster drivers will try to find the “preferred line”, which is the fastest way around the track. Each car goes one at a time for two laps, the driver tries to get the fastest time, since the starting grid is determined by the fastest qualifying times; the fastest forty three cars will compete in the race. With different types of tracks like Daytona, a super speedway, Bristol, a short track, and Pocono’s, a unique tri-oval/road course you will soon find your favorite type of track. Remember to wish them luck, then head back to where you are staying to relax and rejuvenate, for tomorrow is going to be a long day. Good pit strategy is key in winning the race. A white flag means that the leader is on his last lap.
