To Impeach, or Not to Impeach
In recent weeks, everyone has doubtlessly heard of Governor Paul Patton's unfortunate series of events. Moral and ethical issues arise concerning his relationship with Tina Conner as well as the legal implications of his actions. Within this report, I hope to provide a general summation of the events that have transpired to bring about the current charges against our state's leader. Both the Governor and Tina Conner's account of what really happened will first be discussed without bias, however I will state my own opinions within this document. At the conclusion of this report, I hope the reader will be able to obtain a more educated opinion on this issue. "I cannot envision circumstances under which I would be a candidate," said Patton, who said he had planned to start raising campaign funds in January. Conner, who attended the hearing, said afterward that she was ''very unhappy that he was not able to admit that he was the aggressor in the relationship. Conner's lawsuit names the state as well as Patton as a defendant. Lawyers for Patton and the state disagree on at least one point. The next step, she said, would be to bring the charges and findings before a hearing officer appointed by the attorney general's office. "Denis Fleming, Patton's general counsel, said the governor's staff had reviewed Patton's correspondence logs, but had not found any evidence of Conner's letter. Patton, on the other hand, if found guilty should be removed from office in my opinion. '' Crittenden said after the hearing that he would try to rule on the dismissal motions in two to three weeks.
