Special Education

             Special education can be a rewarding experience. There are special children that need help in the inner city and suburbs. The disabilities range from mental retardation, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and autism. Most special education teachers work with elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Special education is more than a job it is a lifetime of fulfillment.
             Some of the jobs responsibilities are to teach students, accommodate the students, and prepare them for real life. Special education teachers teach the children according to their disabilities. They also study the child behavioral and academic development. Special education teachers accommodate the needs of the children, such as given orally exams or providing transportation. States usually give extra money to disable children for school usage. The main responsibility of special education teacher is to prepare the student to live on their own with minimal or no help.
             Qualifications vary from state to state, but there are a few universal qualifications. Most states require special education teachers to be licensed. All states require teachers to have a bachelor degree. Some states may require you to have a masters specializing in special education. Some special education teachers teach under an alternative license with supervision. Special education teachers may specialize in different areas such as psychologists, social worker, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists.
             Special education teachers generally earn $32,000 to 66,000 a year. Typically, most teachers teach in public schools, but some teach in special education centers. A few special education teachers use their off time to tutor individuals. The job outlook in this field is excellent. It is expected to continue grow for the next five years.
