Child Abuse
Child abuse is an issue that affects many people in today's society. Doctors and nurses witness it more than any other individual. I chose to interview Martha Ackerman, who is involved in the nursing field. Mrs. Ackerman works at Parkwood Pediatrics in Charleston, SC. She attended Trident Tech Nursing School which is also located in Charleston, SC. She graduated from Trident Tech with a 3.98 GPA and thirty-eighth in her class. However, Mrs. Ackerman didn't always want to be a nurse, she started in the business field and attended Palmer Business School before she attended nursing school. She was also an executive secretary through out her college years. Mrs. Ackerman received many academic awards such as the WHO'S WHO award and The President's award. Mrs. Ackerman is married and has a daughter who is a sophomore in college. Martha Ackerman has been a nurse for thirteen years, and she says, "I've loved every minute of it."
She has a good understanding of what the world is made up of, by what she sees in the doctor's office. She says that many of the cases are sexual rather than physical. It could just be a mild cold, or it could be a sever issue, but Mrs. She believes anyone that causes harm to any child in a disturbing way should be put in jail. Martha Ackerman has viewed, witnessed, and observed various cases of child abuse. " The main case of child abuse that crossed Martha Ackerman's path is sexual child abuse. "Some parents just can't handle it, and end up taking it out on their children," also said by Martha Ackerman. In 2000, she observed five cases of sexual child abuse. " Anger and frustration are the two main elements of child abuse. Ackerman believes that the only way child abuse is going to come to an end is if teaching is enforced to unstable parents. " Martha Ackerman is a member of the PPGD (Post Point Depression Group), which meets the second Thursday of every month. Ackerman is trained to conquer anything that comes in her way.
