To Eat or Be Eaten?

             One breezy fall morning, there were two brother squirrels trying to get ready for the long winter ahead of them. These two brothers were very competitive between each other about everything. Of course they were making a competition on which brother could be prepared first. The older brother of the two, Charlie, was almost ready and needed one more nut to finish his collection. Fred, the younger brother, was having a little bit of trouble finding his and was frantically searching for more food. Charlie saw a nut across the street and thought that he would be done before Fred and be able to brag about winning all winter long. Charlie looked at Fred and smirked, "ha ha! I'm prepared before you!" Fred stopped sniffing around and drew his attention to Charlie's direction and sees the prized possession across the street. Fred tries to warn Charlie and says, "look both ways before..." and before he could finish his sentence, Charlie had already darted into the street. All that was heard is "splat"! Charlie had been hit by a car that pulled over up the street. Fred rapidly runs over to Charlie to find out if he was still alive. Fred lifts Charlie's head and whispers, "Charlie, I'm sorry I always tried to be better than you. You are a big influence in my life, I need you here with me." Charlie tries to focus on Fred as he gasps for that one last breath and says, "You will be fine brother, I will be watching over you always." Just then, the driver of the car was getting out a shovel and a box and heading over to where Charlie was lying. Fred scurried across the street to the nut that caused this great tragedy and watched patiently to see what was going to happen to his big brother. The old man mumbled to himself, "this will make a good stew" as he scooped up Charlie's lifeless body and placed him in the box. Fred couldn't believe what he had heard and burst into tears at the thought of never seeing his brother ever aga...
