In her book, Their eyes were watching god, Zora Hurston discusses the life of Janie. In chapters 1-6, Janie is married to Logan Killicks and then Joe Starks. Her marriage with Logan Killicks was setup by her grandmother and she was not very happy with it. Later on, Janie runs off with Joe Starks. Even though the two marriages were under very different circumstances, there are many similarities and differences between them.
             There were a lot of similarities in Janie's marriage to Logan Killicks and Joe Starks. Both Logan and Joe treated her nice at first, but after a while they start treating her worse. When Janie first got married to Logan, he used to do all the work in the house, but later on he made her do all the work. When Joe first meets Janie, he tells her that someone as pretty as her should not be working but sitting on a porch and "rock and fan yo'self". After Janie gets married to Joe, he pays less attention to her and made her work in the store. Even though the two marriages were under very different circumstances, there were many similarities between them.
             There were a lot of differences in Janie's marriage to Logan Killicks and Joe Starks. Janie didn't love Logan and the marriage was setup by her grandmother, she had to stay in the house and do all the work. She loved Joe and ran off with him; she is the mayor's wife and looked up to by the rest of the people in the town. The circumstances in the two marriages are very different and there are many differences between them.
