One question that has haunted every country in the world for a very long time is whether or not marijuana should be legalized. Some people say, "Yes", while others say, "No". Although it is illegal to use marijuana many people still use it. However, there is not a satisfactory answer to the question. I think that legalizing the use of marijuana would have many medical benefits, economical benefits, and would decrease crime rates and death rates.
             Marijuana usage has many medical benefits. It became popular as a medicine worldwide during the mid-nineteenth century. Today it is known to treat general headaches, migraine headaches, depression, muscular tension, insomnia, and menstrual cramps. Today, marijuana has proven to be beneficial in the treatment of many more medical conditions including glaucoma, cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, asthma, chronic pain and AIDS. Thus, marijuana usage should be legal so that the people who need it for medical purposes can get it.
             If marijuana were legal it would save the government lots of money. Since billions of dollars are spent worldwide every year in an effort to capture marijuana users. Those that are caught get locked up in prison and we (the taxpayers) have to pay to maintain them. We have to pay for food, housing, health care, attorney fees, court costs, and other expenses to lock these people up. This is money that can be put to far better use. In addition, if marijuana were legal, the government would be able to collect taxes on it, and would have a lot more money to pay for more effective drug education programs and other important causes. A lot of money is also being wasted on many drug-control efforts Current drug-control policies since they have failed, are failing, and will continue to fail and are also counter-productive.
             I believe that by legalizing marijuana, the crime rate might decrease worldwide. I believe that it would make the streets a little bit...
