Bangkok Sex trade
Bangkok has matured into a market for sex tourism due to a distinct lack of viable economic opportunities for the Thai people, a government with a lack of political will to stop it and of course demand. Thailand's government has been unable to create an agricultural or industrial base that can provide decent jobs and financial support for its population forcing many of its people to enter the sex industry in order to support themselves and their families. While many of the third world nations of South East Asia such as Indonesia are attempting to modernize and are recruiting factory jobs, the nation of Thailand has received very little foreign capital. This lack of a definitive internal manufacturing or business sector within the country has forced tourism and service to become the primary industry the Thai economy is based upon. Sex offenders and deviants flock from all parts of the world to Bangkok to service their twisted needs. As long as farming is not a viable occupation on its own, more people will continue to flood into the cities looking for work, many of them ending up as prostitutes or compliments to the sex trade. Visitors can easily find and indulge in whatever sick forms of sexual pleasure intrigues them for a relatively small price. Bright neon signs decorate the street, each competing for the attention and more importantly the wallet of the foreign traveler. As long as the Thai economy remains underdeveloped and men are still willing to fly across the world to get sex, I see no end to Thailand as a destination for sex tourism. There has been little effort on their part to end this cycle of prostitution on behalf of public officials. The corrupt Thai police only step in and enforce laws against the many houses of prostitution when they fail to provide a sufficient bribe. Presently the people have few other alternatives to choose from and a government with little interest in stopping the spread of prostitution. Prostitution is technically illegal in Thailand but the government understands how important bringing foreign dollars into the country is and thus allows the sex trade to flourish freely. The Thai government has been utterly ineffective at providing any sort of land reforms to help solve the farmer's plight. Many countries are attempting to prosecute citizens in their home country for actions committed against children abroad that the Thai government ignores. t districts full of go-go bars and prostitutes. The attitude of the Thai people toward sex is yet another reason the industry goes on in Thailand.
