OverClocking CPUs
What CPU is More Stable When Over-ClockedWhat CPU is more stable when over-clocked? That is a good question and that is what got me interested in this project. One day a couple years, back I got a relatively old computer and I was upset at how slow it was and decided to find out if it was possible to make it go faster. For a long time I looked and did not see anything on speeding up the computer and then one day I came across it. It was called over-clocking, the word caught my eye and I decided to check it out. Over-clocking looked like a complicated process but I was willing to check it out. There were terms in the book and web pages like voltage, multiplier, bus speed, clock speed, jumpers, and BIOS. These words were confusing so I looked them up. The voltage is the amount of electricity flowing to the CPU at any given time. The typical voltage is usually between 3 and 5 volts depending on the CPU and the task. The multiplier was the number that the bus speed was multiplied to in order to find out the CPU speed or clock speed. The multiplier is also a type of governor like on an engine that limits the speed so as not to put out too much power. When you over-clock a CPU, you are essentially over-riding the multiplier's origin
Every now and then people will talk about how they tried to over-clock their CPU and it destroyed their computer. This is because when you up the voltage you are creating more electricity hence, more heat. They do cool well (~20 degrees F less on the CPU). The motherboard has to be able to support many types of CPU voltages if someone wants to over-clock correctly. The 233 MHz was already over-clocked by Sony. For BIOS settings reboot computer and start BIOS configure program. Intel CPU's typically are not locked although there are some that are. A higher voltage can provide that necessary signal to operate at the higher frequency. Run stability program to check for lock-ups, hangs, crashes, and bugs. Really, the only negatives of Peltier coolers are that they are expensive, have some trouble with condensation, and release high heat output. I never got to the 750 MHz AMD because of time constraints. The basic cooling mechanism that people can get, and probably be able to get by on in most situations, is the CPU heat-sink/fan combo.
