Hamlet's isolation

One's isolation is often caused by a tragic event. The difference of opinions carried by opposing parties during these events causes arguments which lead to isolation. One person's isolation can cause their family and friends terrible hardships and heartaches. Isolation not only ruins relationships but also can result in the destruction, frustration and often madness of the person being alienated. When one cannot handle the separation being imposed on them by others one starts to isolate themselves. When one in isolated they usually do not have the power to change their situation. Throughout Shakespeare's Hamlet the main character is isolated from the people and home that he loves most by Polonius, the lord chamberlain, by Gertrude, his mother, and by Claudius, his uncle. Polonius played a major role in isolating Hamlet from the one he loves. Polonius forbade Hamlet from seeing his daughter, Ophelia. He did not trust the intentions the prince had for his daughter and tried to deter her from having a relationship with him. He feared that he would harm her and therefore advised her by saying: Do not believe his vows, for they are brokers , Not of that dye which their investm


Through this marriage he not only isolated Hamlet from his mother but further more he tried to make him forget the memories of his father. Without his nephew's feelings in mind, he married Gertrude and then mocked Hamlet for having feelings of depression and grief following the death of Old Hamlet and the marriage. But to persever In obstinate condolement is a course Of impious stubbornness. She tried to get him to change his ways by saying "Good Hamlet, cast thy nighted color off, And let thein eye look like a friend on Denmark. There was a difference of opinions on how certain events were handled and no one agreed with Hamlet. He was unable to understand how she could have loved his father so much yet had been able to grieve and then move on to another husband in less than two months. He not only alienated Hamlet from his family and friends but he also separated him from his country. " (IV iii 42-43) He forced Hamlet to leave his kingdom and by doing so alienated him from two of his good friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern since they were forced to be the guards on the trip to England. "The bark is ready and the wind at help, th' associates tend, and everything is bent for England. (I iii 126-131)Soon afterward Hamlet stated behaving extremely fierce toward Ophelia.
