Othello

Consider how Iago's Character has changed in act 2 scene 3 Iago is portrayed as the most villainous character throughout all of Shakespeare's plays and poems. At first in the early scene of Othello we see Iago expressing his evilness and scheming ways through racism towards Othello and his manipulative skills to Roderigo. Throughout the first scene we are led to witness Iago's blatant two faced personality, in one line he is congratulating Othello and then in another he is viciously insulting Othello,"Or else the devil will make grandsire of you"However it is not until the later scenes that we see the really and full evolved evilness In Iago show its evil face. In act 2 scene 3 Iago speech, we learn about the real evil yet paranoid Iago. We learn this in his speech where he starts to plot the demise of Othello and anybody else who plans to get in his way. Though we have learnt that Iago is truly evil personified, Iago feels that he needs to justify himself,"And whats he then that says I play the villainWhat this advice is free I give and honest"The fact that Iago feels that he has to justify himself makes you realise that this man i

He stops Justifying himself and looks upon what he now has realised to be his true character. Othello has complete and utter in Desdemona,"His soul is enfettered to her love". He has started to take on his true role; he has discarded what he said to be his false face on goodness and honesty, "At first with heavenly shows". Its is she who "Shall play the God" and through Desdemona Iago intends to essentially break Othello. To revealing his true nature as "the blackest of sins put on". "When devils will blackest sins put onThey do suggest at first with heavenly shows". Iago plots to be the corrupt evil character that he has started to believe he really is, he intends to use this to seek his revenge against Othello, who has only one crime which is not promoting Iago, but Iago wants Othello to pay for this by ruining his life. "She may make, unmake do what she list,Even as her appetite shall play the God". "I'll pour this pestilence into his ear:That she repeals him for her bodies lust"He aims to poison Othello's mind into thinking that Desdemona is nothing but a whore who has affairs when he is at work. The influencing power over Othello and the manipulation of Desdemona, Iago will use his evilness to devastate them all,"That shall enmesh"Throughout the whole of Act 2 Scene 3 in Iago's speech we really do learn and witness that Iago is truly evil personified and equal to the devil in his plotting scheming ways. "And by how much she strives to do him good"Iago is going to taint Othello's mind so much that no matter how much Desdemona appeals to try and reprieve herself to be in Othello's good nature, Othello will just ignore her,"She shall undo her credit with the MoorSo will I turn her virtue into pitch". Iago can really prove himself to be mentally unstable with his constant reference to his plot as being sort of a game. He actually believes that what he is doing is right, Iago doesn't have any morals to speak of at all. Then towards the second half of the speech Iago takes a sudden and abrupt change to his plans. Iago thinks that he can make the light and goodness within Desdemona that Othello sees into blackness and darkness, he wants Othello to believe that it was Desdemona that destroy his life and not Iago.
