However, most research dows not directly include emotional abuse in child abuse studies (windom 2). l abuse and emotional abuse are other major tyes of abuse. This type of abuse is most commoly caused by and unstable or alcholic person. Emotional or psycological abuse, which may occur in combination with the other types of abuse, also can have profound long-term consequences for the child. In a recent national survey, neglect represented 60% of confiremed cases; physical abuse 23%; sexual abuse 9%; and emotional abuse 4%; and all other forms of maltreatment 5% (paulk 1). Sexual abuse can occur outside of the home just as often as inside. In most cases of abused children their parents were abused as children just the same. Because this last type of abuse is difficult to define and identfiy.
