Is Bigger Really Better: Analyzing the Ideal Company"When I grow up, I want to be an Accountant and I want to make a lot of money and have a big house and a big car and two children and I don't want a wife because girls are icky." This is what one heard when they solicited a child regarding there adult hood. Personally, I have never witnessed someone asking a child, you want to work for a corporation or under a sole-proprietor. Although this is an extremely important issue for an individual pursuing post-secondary education, it is probably the last thing a student would consider a year and a half prior to graduation. Nevertheless, this assignment has allowed me to be creative, inquisitive, and has also stimulated my insight as to where I would like to work once graduation is no longer a goal, but it becomes reality. To begin, an individual with accounting as a primary major has a countless selection of accounting firms, small businesses, large businesses and even schools to choose from when determining the kind of company that would be superlative for a specific person. It is not an easy decision, so when embarking upon this assignment the best aim to take was to distinguish each type
Understanding myself, what I desired and what mattered most and what was the reason behind choosing accounting as a major all played a vital role in the outcome of my quest. It is painless to say that this is an extremely large company. Beginning with the large companies, actually the largest companies, the "Big Four", this name refers the four biggest accounting firms in the world. After doing some serious searching, I knew that the thing for me to do was to change my major to accounting, and I know that it was a word from God. What are the advantages to working for a large company such as PwC? Apparently, someone who works for a large company such as the "Big Fours" has a much wider selection than those working in small, private companies. There are several things that I had to ask myself when I undertook this endeavor. Even further, their children were able to obtain a college education and are now able to give back to someone less fortunate than themselves. Returning to those questions that I asked myself, what is important to me and what do I desire and how can my choices help other? Considering these things, I would rather work in a large, corporate firm than a smaller firm. People decide to major in something for several reasons, and they choose where to go after graduation for probably more reasons than several. In conclusion, every accounting, business, mathematics, education or even psychology, none of them are the same. Focusing on just one, the information is amazing and made making a decision a little more difficult. Although that the profession is demanding in itself, smaller firms may not have thousands of offices all over the world which may mean less traveling and more time at home with family. It is wonderful that everyone does not feel the same way that I feel, because everyone would be in the larger firms and the purpose that each individual small firm has would not get fulfilled.
