Fahrenheit 451
The Futuristic Ideas of 1984 and Fahrenheit 451Ray Bradbury and George Orwell share a common focus in their books about the future of society in years to come. Each of their novels depicts the future as non-individualistic, totalitarian and restricts our freedoms. The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury puts his main character in a world where he must destroy books in order to keep the people from having diverse opinions when reading these materials. Orwell's 1984 has a different twist in which an imaginary figure represents the government of a non-individualistic society. Based on the likenesses and differences of the main characters of each of these books, one can get an overall idea of how they are they alike, and how they are different. This persona is kept until; Winston discovers that he is only acting this part to trap Winston. Julia is the type of person who lives in the moment. O'Brien is seen as the leader of the underground group, Brotherhood which is against Big Brother. Winston's fate is determined in the beginning of the book when he purchases a diary from an antique shop. Winston Smith works for the Inner Party in which he alters documents to what the Inner Party wants them to be. What these characters share in common is that both don't care what's happening in the world and what the world is coming to. In light of these characters they are different because of the way they represent the "underground" organizations. But there is a slight difference with Winston and Guy. Although they are not as similar as Guy and Winston they do share a common role in the book. With these main characters they're supporting characters that take a somewhat important role and showing what the ignorant person does to rebel against the society. Where as Winston's ideals or more based on what has happened in the past. She also rebels against Big Brother just like Winston does.
