Loch Ness: The Evidence

It is possible that our world still be full of mysterious creatures and species of which science knows very little, or possibly nothing about. Mysteries are not just about the possibility of life on other planets, but the possibility of other forms of life on our own planet. Many scientists reject this idea, and argue that there are really no major mysteries related to our planet, but this view is difficult to accept especially as we consider the size of the oceans and seas, or the size of the planet itself. It doesn't seem possible that humans have covered actually every desert and every jungle on the land, and dived down into the bottom of every ocean and sea on earth. Due to the difficulty of believing this, it is easy to believe that there are still many mysterious creatures around us. One branch of science, cryptozoology, is focuses on the search for mysterious animals. Founded in the twentieth century by the Swiss scientist, Bernard Heuvelmans, cryptozoology, can be simply defined as the study of undiscovered animals, which people claim to have seen, or which exist in historical documents, paintings, or even legends. Although it has been attacked as unscientific by zoology, cryptozoology is responsible for the discov

In the first place, Nessie is not the only creature seen around the world, and there are others. Geologists and scientists argue that the equipment and technology needed to explore and investigate this lake have simply not been invented yet. However, the existence of supposedly extinct pre-historic animals on our planet will influence our lives. The facts of science state that all these lakes were once salt-water and that it is possible that this particular species of creatures, did learn to adapt. In the second place, dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years, and the environment that they need in order to survive, does not exist any more. This only proves that we know very little about our world. Additionally, there is definite scientific evidence that Loch Ness supports "unrecorded species of anemone braciopods unchanged for 600 million years" ("Curious Story" 10). Both geologists and the British government admit that this particular lake is very unique in its depth, size and shape and, accordingly is unexplored (Stuttaford 2-3). Over the centuries there have been at least 3,000 recorded sightings of Nessie, all of which follow the same description but, scientists still refused to investigate any of these claims. According to available evidence it would appear that the environment of this lake is different from any other known lake environment, and it has allowed pre-historic creatures to survive. Possibly scientists and zoologists need to review and reconsider their old ideas and accept that they may have been incorrect. This effort needs support and not rejection, as it would uncover many new truths about our world. The second answer to this specific objection is also the scientifically proven fact that all water creatures are known to adapt themselves from salt-water environments to fresh water environments over the period of thousands of years (Harrison 51). As an area of study, cryptozoology causes a great deal of debate and in spite of cryptozoologists having discovered countless animals, and presenting evidence for many more even stranger ones, it still faces attack by zoologists and scientists.
