Cloning

As many people already know cloning has become a larger issue in the last few years. Throughout this report I will inform you of everything I know about cloning. I will start off with the definition of cloning. Then I will explore how cloning works. I will present important dates in cloning history. I will also present information supporting why people might want to clone and why they might not want to clone. There will be a section on how the government has effected cloning. Lastly I will give my own point of view on how I feel about cloning. I would like you to notice that some of the information I am going to present is my opinion and that some has yet to be proven. However all the information comes from reliable resources and are the findings of educated scientists.
A clone is a group of organisms that are genetically identical. A clone has the same genetic composition as it's parent. This means that the clone and the off-spring are genetically identical. Most cloning results from asexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction is when the off-spring has only one parent cell instead of two. The American Medical Association (AMA) defines cloning as "the production of genetically identical organisms via somatic cell nuclear transfer. Somatic nuclear transfer refers to the process in which the nucleus of a somatic cell of an existing organism is transferred into an oocyte from which the nucleus has been removed." A somatic cell is one of the non-reproductive cells of the parent body. An oocyte is where the eggs are kept in the body. To perform a somatic cell nuclear transfer you first take and egg and remove its nucleus, which contains the DNA genes. You then take DNA from an adult cell and insert it into an egg. There are two ways to insert an adult egg into a cell:
             1) You fuse the adult cell with the nucleated egg. By fusing the adult cell with the nucleated egg it then combines with the egg and fo...
