Ethan Frome is a man fated to live a harsh and pitiless existence because he is a tall and lame man, his marriage became loveless and he cheats with Mattie, and he worked on a farm even though that is not what he wanted to do. Ethan Frome had a tough life. He is tall and lame, he has complications in his life, he had to take care of the family farm instead of going to school and college and doing the things he wanted to. You have to feel pity for him because his life was almost a waste because he winds up being a slug in a bed, with a straight long face, that is doomed to live under the same roof as Mattie and Zeena his wife. Once Zeena got sick his marriage went down, and he decided he liked Mattie Silver, and when Zeena came back from the doctors, they said she had complications and after that she was real mean. Ethan Frome didn't even want to work on the family farm, but he was forced to because his father dies and he has to do it. He wanted to go to college and finish school and study science and math I believe. He may have not liked it all the time but he did it. Ethan Frome's life was a definitely wasted life, he had almost no point in his life except to really suffer, it is amazing that he didn't do more of trying to die than just crashing into a tree. On the next run they decide they want to die, so Mattie tells Ethan to drive into the big tree at the end of the hill. When Ethan Frome was going to take Mattie to the train station he decides to go sledding with Mattie, while they are going up they say how much they love each other, and the break down crying. If I was he I would be angry because he can't even do what he wants to. Ethan Frome is a man who stands out against everybody, he was forced into a job he didn't want, and he did it.
