Old Man and the Sea thesis
It's the very first day in summer and you are innocently jumping on one of your friend's trampolines. Then picture your feet falling out from underneath yourself. As you fly through the air and look to the gods, knowing your fate. As you come closer to the ground you land with nothing to protect your face but you r own arms. At the exact instant you hit the ground you hear the enevetable crack, and the sound almost cuts you rears in half. You know the result but you must look at yourself, and upon inspection you discover that, as you figured, your arm is broken. This exact situation happened to me this summer, I hadn't hurt anyone, and I was stuck with virtually nothing to do all summer. This whole event brought upon a thought, the thought that life isn't fair, and I concluded the resason for this is that luck plays too big of a part of human existence for life to be fair. I'm sure that I'm not the only one but regardless I have found, partially through The Old Man and the Sea, that life is not fair. Santiago does no misdeeds to others, but at the begaining of the book it states " The ol
" (The boy, pg 11 Hemmingway) tells of a tale of luck, catching th ethree fish, and also a tale of misfortune, going that long without a fish. " This quote shows how luck plays a part perfectly, the old man got lucky, and caught the fish, but it didn't matter after he worked so hard because luck would have it that all the sharks came up on this spot. If there was no luck there would be no real life, in that humans could never hope for something better, people would be born into all their roles. " "The best laid plans of mice and men oftem go astray" When Shakesphere said this he was feeling a rush of emotions and he must have realized that life isn't fair, and when you realize that you also realalize that this is because luck plays too great of a part in the human existence. They outnumber the loons at least ten men to one loon. "But you still see well"(boy to old, pg 13) man shows the luck on the old mans part to be naturally gifted with good eyesight. "The sharks only took the good meat at first, but then all the ediable meat was gone. Santiago is crushed down by luck so many times in the story it makes you realize this point, he was not a highly unsuccessful fisher always he has had luck "We caught three big fish in one day" "I went to Africa to go turtling" The old man talking about his taravels and the boy talking about their occasional success gives us proof of this. " How could you advocate breaking some laws and obeying others.
