Supernatural and Macbeth
In the Shakespeare play "Macbeth," one of the themes is very evident. That Theme being that the supernatural has an effect on human nature. Some of the supernatural in Macbeth includes witches, apparitions, and ghosts. The supernatural had an affect on Macbeth making him a greedy, evil tyrant. Macbeth's first encounter with the supernatural is when he meets the three witches in act one, scene three. The three witches give Macbeth prophecies: "All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, that shelt be king hereafter!" (A1 S3 L51-53). After which the witches vanish. Shortly afterwards Ross and Angus appear to inform Macbeth that he is the new Thane of Cawdor, fulfilling the first of the prophecies. Macbeth then writes Lady Macbeth telling her about the witches and prophecies. Also Duncan (the king) plans to come for a dinner at Inverness (Macbeth's Castle). Lady Macbeth then begins to plan Duncan's murder, leading to Macbeth's second supernatural encounter. This second encounter has changed him even more, because he took the path of the dagger and killed Duncan. Finally, the last apparition appears and is a child crowned, with a tree in his hand. This showing a change in Macbeth's character. Banqou's failure to recognize Macbeth at night proves Macbeth has begun to change. Macbeth is holding a banquet that is well underway when the murderer of Banqou showed up and tells Macbeth : "My Lord, his throat is cut. Macbeth plots the murder of his once close friend and has his third encounter with supernatural. Therefor because of the supernatural Macbeth went form a Nobel, Loyal, war hero to a evil, greedy tyrant.
