Farewell to Manzanar

             Farewell to Manzanar is Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston's memoir of her experiences during World War II, when Japanese-Americans were held at internment camps because of their ancestry. I found some similar and parallel experiences as Houston had during other national origins when they have war with America.
             First, for instance, the parallel experience I found as Houston's experience is the concentration camp in Germany during the World War I. During the World War I, German put Jews in concentration camps. Although Jews contributed a lot in Germany especially in financial prospect, German had hatred against these Germany citizens. Therefore, they put these Jewish people into the highly security concentration camps. As very similar situation, Houston and her family were held in the internment camp during the World War II. Because of their ancestry, they were treated as an enemy after the attack of Pearl Harbor. In the guarded internment camp, Houston and her family were segregate from the outside world as other Japanese in America. They were terrified by the living condition of the internment camp. Dusty, no privacy, not even have enough room to sleep and eat. Therefore, The experience of Japanese were fenced in internment camps are very similar as the Jews concentration camp during the World War I.
             The other parallel situation of Houston's experience as other country whose had war with America is that German were afraid to be identified their nationality during the World War I. During this time, American deadly hated the German. A lot of American soldiers were died in the war. German, who were in America at that time were badly treated. Some of them were beat or even killed by the high emotional American. Because of these reactions from American people, German-American hid their nationality or did not want to mention anything about the war. They burned their country's flag.
