Definition of a term: cool
Words are used in any language for humans to communicate with one another. However, in order to communicate effectively and properly we as a people must know the definitions of the words we use. This becomes an increasingly harder task as time progresses. This is because of the endless use and additions of slang terms as well as the increasing alternative meanings to words already in use. One slang term that has transcended through many generations is the word "cool". Since its first use as a slang term it has adapted many new meanings. There are so many meanings for "cool" that one can no longer look at the word and give it any one meaning but one must look at the context of its use. The formal and proper definition of this word is used when describing temperature. When referring to weather, food, water, or anything that varies in temperature it is used when the temperature is comfortable on contact. When something is not too hot or too cold it is "cool". Because of the terms different uses and meanings it will probably remain in use for generations to come. " Another example of this terms slang use would be if somebody asked their teacher if they could turn in a late assignment the teacher could say "that's cool" which would imply that the assignment would be accepted. If somebody is said to be "not cool" then it is implied that they are an outcast. I f a guy was going to fight someone they just met, the guys friend could say "he's cool. The said person is not stylish, does not have many friends, and is generally disliked by his or her peers. The term could also be used in a situation when two people are planning a vacation and one person says to the other "you will have to pay two hundred dollars for a hotel. For instance, if somebody were to be walking with a friend near a bicycle shop and they saw a nice looking bicycle they could say to their friend "that is a cool bike. These phrases would be used if somebody were upset or becoming upset. The term "cool" is most often used in reference to social status in terms of popularity among peers.
