Every individual one time or another wanted to be a part of something, a sports team, a committee, a business organization or even a family. In the story, "The Haunting Of Hill House," we see were the urge for social acceptance becomes such an important factor among the character know as Eleanor Vance. Caught between being a childish victim of others, Eleanor Vance wanted to be in a place where she'll feel accepted, loved, and could call home. Could the Hill House be what she's been searching for all her life? Perhaps, or it could turn to be a very spiritually inhabited place where those who do not belong can encounter dreadful outcomes.
             The narrator states, "Eleanor had no friends, and the only person in the world she genuinely hated, now her mother was dead, was her sister. She dislikes her brother-in-law and her five-year-old niece." As the story progresses, we come to find out that Eleanor dedicated her whole life to taking care of her sick mother, she actually stays up endless mornings and nights to make sure her mother was all right. The narrator states, "She could not remember ever being truly happy in her adult life; her years with her mother had been built up devotedly around small guilt and small reproaches, constant weariness, and unending despair." This gives some evidence to Eleanor's negativity towards her surroundings.
             The narrator states, "It was the first genuinely shining day of summer, a time of year which brought Eleanor always to aching memories of her earl childhood, when it had seemed to be summer all the time; she could not remember a winter before her father's death on a cold wet day." This evidence shows that Eleanor dwells and reminisces on her misfortunes of the past. In addition, her father passed away, her sister and brother in-law are not easily understood, who else is there for her? Where can she go?
             One day, Eleanor and a few others received a letter in the mail from a Dr.
