First Date Game Plan

             The first activity on a first date that maximizes attraction possibilities, should be one that will allow both people to get to know each other a little. Studies have shown that as uncertainty decreases, levels of attraction increase (Kellermann & Reynolds, 1990). By participating in an activity where both people are able to freely communicate, one will greatly increase the possibility of attractiveness. I think that learning to make pottery on a pottery wheel would be a great activity to begin with.
             Besides reducing uncertainty, there would also be the possibility of social attraction while making pottery. It is easy to hang out with someone while making pottery because it is hard to get bored. This is because a person always has the pottery to be working with if there is a lull in the conversation. It is even possible to have fun making pottery alone. If a person is enjoying herself while creating a piece of pottery, she will most likely attribute her satisfaction to social attraction because she "had a good time."
             The next item on the agenda for the date would be to change into nice clothes and go out to dinner. The man would surprise the woman by pulling up to an elegant dinner cruise boat when she expected an ordinary restaurant. If she truly is pleasantly surprised by the cruise, attraction will increase. This is according to a study by Burgoon and Afifi in 2000. They state that if an unexpected behavior is perceived as rewarding, attraction is likely to increase.
             There would also be an element of physical attraction at dinner because both people are dressed up. Social attraction would be present again assuming that the two people are able to carry on a conversation.
