Living

             I'm sure every one of you has read a poem before, but some of you may find a poetry book as being boring. Luckily for me, the poem book that I chose to read only contained eleven poems. The title of the book I chose is "A Thousand Words is Worth a Thousand Words." The author of this was never famous and he had never had a book published. In fact, he wrote this book at the young age of seventeen. He chose the title based on the phrase, "a picture is worth a thousand words." He decided on his title because the book contained a thousand words. After each poem that he wrote he would count exactly how many words were in each one. I read this book several times and feel that I know so much about the author just by reading his poems.
             He wrote this book as a gift for a special friend. He wanted to hold onto his writings since they where never published so he made a copy for himself. He never really got into published writing mainly because he was only seventeen years old.
             The author of this book was from a small town similar to the one in which I live. In his town there were no hang outs or places to go. So he constantly found himself writing poems about his feelings and to get away from the dull life of the town. He was an athletic guy, so he was portrayed as being tough and macho. He was picked on by the guys in school because he wrote poetry. Before the he began writing poetry he would write short stories based on fictional characters or he would write them from thoughts that were going through his mind. He had a very eventful life, some of which was good and some that was bad. He enjoyed writing poetry and it worked for him since he had so much on his mind that he could write about. A lot of the poems were written about the bad events in his life to help deal with the pain and a way for him to express his feelings without speaking a word.
